Ways to practice sight words
Practice reading the pre-decodable books online on Think Central.. The repetition helps. Sing the songs from the songsheets. If you start to read the words on the songsheet, your child will probably be able to sing the song.

Look through his/her storybooks at home. As you are reading to him/her, after you finish reading a page, ask him/her to find the word the or see or is or …
Have him/her look for the words we are practicing in the newspaper or a magazine. If you are done with the article, have him/her circle the word with a crayon or marker. Give him/her 6 words to look for and see which word is used the most.
Find something s/he likes and put 2 or 3 words there. If your child goes into the refrigerator a lot, put 2 or 3 words on the refrigerator and s/he has to read them and use them in a sentence ( like a secret password) before opening the fridge, or turning on the computer, or opening the Lego box or …
Play memory card games, with 2 cards each for the sight words to practice.
Play tic tac toe with the words in the spaces. Make the 2 vertical lines and the 2 horizontal lines for the tic tac toe shape and have him/her write in 9 of the words, 1 in each space. Then you can play tic tac toe by having him/her read a word before s/he marks the x in that space. You will read the word and use it in a sentence before you mark it with an o.
